3 Email List Questions Every Affiliate Marketer Eventually Asks

If you’re trying to build an affiliate marketing business, you’ve probably heard the same advice repeatedly:

“You need to build an email list.”

That sounds simple enough—until you actually try to do it.

Where do you find people to join your list? How big does your list need to be before you can make money? And once people subscribe, what in the world are you supposed to email them?

Those are three questions that stop a lot of beginners in their tracks.

So, rather than making email marketing complicated, let’s tackle these questions one at a time.

How to join my list

Part 1: “How Do I Actually Get People to Join My Email List?”

This is probably the first question almost every new affiliate marketer asks.

You create your opt-in page. You connect your autoresponder. You test everything and see that it works.

Then you wait.

And…

Nothing happens.

That’s when you discover one of the most important lessons in online marketing:

Having a funnel doesn’t automatically give you traffic.

People need a reason to visit your page—and an even better reason to give you their email address.

How to join my list

Start With the Reason to Subscribe

Instead of asking, “How do I get someone’s email address?” ask:

“What can I offer that would make the right person want to hear from me again?”

That could be a free guide, checklist, training video, mini-course, resource list, or membership.

The important thing is that it solves a specific problem your audience already has.

For example, someone struggling to get started with affiliate marketing might be interested in:

“5 Simple Steps to Start Affiliate Marketing Without Getting Overwhelmed.”

Now you’ve given that visitor a reason to subscribe.

then you need traffic

Then You Need Traffic

Once you have something worth subscribing for, you need to put your opt-in page in front of people.

Traffic can come from:

  • Facebook content
  • YouTube videos
  • Blog posts
  • Search engines
  • Paid advertising
  • Solo email advertising
  • Referrals and recommendations

You don’t need to master every traffic source.

In fact, trying to do everything at once is one of the easiest ways to become overwhelmed.

Pick one traffic method. Learn it. Use it consistently. Measure your results.

Your first goal isn’t building a list of 10,000 people.

It’s getting your first subscriber.

Then your first 10.

Then your first 100.

That’s how an email list begins—one real person at a time.

Coming in Part 2: How many subscribers do you really need before your email list can start making money?
