You Know Your Email List Matters—So What Should You Do Next?
If you’ve started thinking “list first,” you may be wondering what that actually looks like when you’re brand-new to affiliate marketing.
Do you need hundreds of subscribers? Expensive software? A complicated email funnel with dozens of messages?
No.
In the beginning, your goal should simply be to create a way for interested people to join your email list so you can continue the conversation.
Think about it this way.
Someone discovers your Facebook post, watches one of your videos, or reads an article on your blog. They like what you’re saying—but they’re not ready to buy anything.
Without an email list, they leave, and you hope they eventually find you again.
But if you give them a reason to subscribe, you’ve created another opportunity to help them.
That’s why I believe beginners should build the connection before chasing the commission.
What to Do Next
You don’t need to build everything at once. Start with these three simple steps:
1. Give people a reason to join your list.
Offer something useful in exchange for their email address. It could be a short guide, checklist, video, training, or another free resource that helps solve a specific problem.
2. Create a simple opt-in page.
Keep it uncomplicated. Tell visitors what they’ll receive, how it can help them, and where to enter their email address.
3. Start communicating.
Don’t collect email addresses and then disappear! Send a welcome email. Introduce yourself. Share helpful information. Answer common questions. Recommend useful resources.
Most importantly, don’t make every email a sales pitch.
Your subscribers are people—not numbers on a screen.
Start Small and Think Long-Term
If you have zero subscribers today, don’t worry about reaching 10,000.
Get your first one.
Then work toward ten.
Then fifty.
Each subscriber represents someone who raised their hand and said, “Yes, I’d like to hear more.”
That’s something worth building on.
So as you create your next blog post, Facebook post, video, or piece of content, ask yourself one simple question:
“Where am I sending this person next?”
Don’t just chase the click.
Don’t just chase the commission.
Build the connection. Build the relationship. Build the asset.
And above all…
